Japanese Snack Food Review: Kame Rice Crunch Crackers (plain)

Well, I did it. I decided that if plain was going to be my only choice of Ka-me rice crunch crackers that I had not yet sampled (because Bush’s never restocks the tasty varieties) then I’d better just take a deep breath and plunge in head first. To tell the truth, I wasn’t really very gung ho at all about these fellas because plain rice cracker? Yuck. At least the wasabi had the spice going for it and sesame had some sesame going for it but what does plain have going for it?

First, crunch. The plain rice crunch crackers are just as crispity as their wasabi and sesame cousins. Plus pea points for crispity. Plain are also pretty salty too, for being plain that is. The back of the package says you get 4% of your recommended daily sodium intake, although you have to eat 17 crackers to do so. Still, I was not expecting the nice pleasant saltiness that came with this cracker. It’s not too salty, yet salty enough to get pea points for good saltiness. Or something.

You also get a strong ricey taste too, which duh. I’d expect a rice crunch cracker to taste ricey wouldn’t you? I rather liked their riceyness, it’s a nice deep ricey flavor, like one of those puffed rice cake things but tastier. On the whole, I rather enjoyed the plain version of the rice crunch crackers, which really surprised me. I think I’ll give these a surprise
