We’ve got a cheap yellow plastic slinky that a supply vendor tossed in with an order years ago… I wonder if toy freebies are less common now that the dot-com boom has gone? Sorry.. total digression from my original thing.
If you’ve every played with a Slinky style toy, you know the biggest hazard is the spring getting tangled up in itself. Well, this happened with the yellow plastic one. I had a few minutes while a poster printed out, so I tried untangling it. Surprisingly, when I was done, the little printed logo on on the side was completely illegible.

Well, I’ve got the video edit station set up at work, finally. For those of you geeking along at home, the setup includes a mini-DV deck and an international format VCR for playback, an SVHS VCR for recording, an analog to digital converter and a mini LCD monitor to check output. All of this is connected with a massive maze of cables, carefully arranged and velcro’d together in a fashion reminiscent of a badminton net that has collided with an airborne spaghetti factory.

Rain changes everything. Today it is about 40 degrees out and drizzling down rain. It’s absolutely miserable out there. Last week it was 40 degrees out, but with bright sunshine. I drove around with the windows down and the sunroof open. Same temperature, entirely different attitudes.

Actually, I kind of lounge corrected. I have a very comfy office chair and I’m loathe to get up out of it right now. But that’s beside the point. DECAFBAD sent me this highly linkable article in response to my brief diatribe about installing an Xserve in a shower stall:
Check out Joi Ito’s PSINet Japan POP, circa 1994:

Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell
Isn’t that a great title? The RCK found it for us in a search on Net Flix. According to the reviews, which are available to subscribers, it’s gotten a star rating of 1.5 out of a possible 10. Sounds like an excellent Smithee candidate. I especially like the plot summary:
The survivors of a nuclear holocaust compete for the love of the last surviving woman – a nymphoid barbarian.

I don’t consider myself an evil person. It’s not that I wish harm on people who drive SUVs. I just enjoy laughing at them when harm happens. Provided it is just minor harm, of course.

There’s a guy just outside my office with a helper monkey. Seeing eye dogs are almost passe around the hospital, but people will stop and ooh and ahh about the cute monkey perched on the shoulder of the guy in the wheelchair. It’s an almost irresistible combination of cool and cute.

We’ve jumped on the whole Lemony Snicket “Series of Unfortunate Events” bandwagon… And I’ve developed a theory about what’s REALLY going on. All just idle speculation at this point, obviously, given that I’ve just finished book six out of the eleven that have been released so far. I’m going to try to avoid giving too many spoilers, or to cite anything beyond where my Wife has gotten to (she’s finished book four). In addition to my desire to avoid bibliodomestic strife, this is where I began to formulate my theory.
So, if you’re enjoying the series and don’t want to have your reading ruined by my theoretical ruminations, stop here. Otherwise, read on…

One of the docs here has been working on a rat breeding program, selecting for athletic ability in order to study genetic predisposition for particular diseases… There’s a whole press release on it from last year when he was in Ohio, so it’s not exactly breaking news… On the other hand, now that he’s here I got to film him. And the rats.
