The family Travelling Christmas Show is underway… I guess it started on Saturday, if you want to get all technical. That’s when my Fiancee and I headed up to her mom’s house for her family’s celebration of food and gifts. Today we had the second installment of the food and presents extravaganza that is the hallmark of the true Travelling Christmas Show.

Earlier this year, a friend of mine introduced me to something called “The Game of a Thousand Blank White Cards” or 1KBWC for short. The story behind the game is fairly simple: someone mis-read the label on a box of index cards. The game itself can be pretty complex. All of the cards are hand-drawn by the players, and until the cards are created the game itself has no rules.

I was in the middle of an unrelated entry when I was interrupted by the news that there was leftover ‘meeting food’ available in one of the break rooms. In this case, it was Chinese food. A huge sterno-heated tray of sweet and sour chicken to be precice.

At a friend’s housewarming party last weekend, I was reminded of something that always irritated us when it occured in fantasy fiction. People would wind up making stupid mistakes because, long ago, someone lost the lore that would have told them they were about to screw up royally. Joel in particular could launch into an exquisite minutes-long rant about how upset he was at “Careless lore-losing M*********ERS!” without repeating a single profanity.

It’s Friday the 13th, and the workday is almost over. Or at least it should be. Right now I’m nearly dozing in the office, waiting for some software to finish installing.

The worst part of it is that the software install is my own fault. I was trying to add some functions to our web server and I wound up trashing the test machine I was working on.
