Anonymity and privacy

I was about to write up a quick note on an amusing event from last night when a question hit me: How much personal information do I want to give away here, anyway?

I mean, it’s not like I expect to have rabid fans of this tiny blog seeking me out and pestering me for autographs. And it’d be easier to be able to refer to people and places by their proper names and not have to remember a slew of clever pseudonyms and nicknames…

On the other hand, I was on the air for a while on a local, student-run radio station, and I know there are people out there who will obsess about anything. I mean, I had a 3am – 6am show for a while and even with that schedule I had a couple of borderline stalking incidents… One of them turned out to be another DJ at the station who had a graveyard shift job and who would call frequently just because she really liked listening to my show at work. Nothing sinister there, but there were other frequent callers… And some of the female DJ’s had to deal with some real creeps.

So, until I get a good idea about who’s out there reading (yes, all six of you!) I think I’ll be sticking with generic terms like “My Fiancee” and “At Work” instead of providing names and addresses for the tinfoil hat brigade…
