Editing

Re-read yesterday’s entry… Jeez that was depressing… Sorry.

It’s been single-digit cold for a week or two now, dipping down below zero at night, and I guess it kinda got me down. I briefly considered going through and editing it, but I’ve kinda decided to leave things here ‘As-Is’ as a sort of yardstick of how my writing changes.

I’m doing some video editing at work right now. It’s at the stage where I’m taking footage that I shot on a digital video camera and transferring it on to the hard drive of the editing computer. It’s kind of boring… I’ve seen it all before, of course (after all, I was there when I filmed it) and seeing some of my footage makes me cringe.

It’s the same sort of reaction I have when reading some of my older entries. A deep feeling of “Why the heck did I do this that way?” Just as an example, before the talk started, I got a shot of a picture that the speaker was talking about. When he began talking about it, I could have used that time to get pictures of the audience reaction. Then when I was editing, I could splice the shot of the picture over the speaker’s comments, and I’d have reaction shots of the crowd that I could edit in to cover some of the awkward camera movements when different people started talking.

I guess it’s an authenticity issue. At work, the end product is the important thing. We want to produce a smooth, finished, professional quality video. For this site, the rough cut is an important part of the experience. I could go back and edit my early stuff, but that would be… I guess the best word is ‘dishonest.’

Whoops! The video is ready… Back to work…

Ok ok… A quick addendum here… I WILL edit out typos or add disclaimers at the end if I need to… But as far as style or content, I’m not making changes.
