Just a couple of quick notes during lunch… First off some behind the scenes geek stuff: I’m loving the new logging system! I had a slight hiccup caused by a glitch in the server name and I was able to troubleshoot it just by looking at the web logs… Plus, I could see that people actually read this drivel of mine! Thanks!
The weekend was nice and relaxing. There’s a few things that I didn’t get done that I wanted to, mostly having to do with either remodeling or winemaking. On the other hand I did get my taxes done, and I had a fine time hanging out with folks and enjoying the company of my Fiancee.
And cooking…
Mmm….
Thursday I started work on a vegetarian black bean chili crockpot meal, letting it cook overnight so that we could take it in for lunches on Friday… On Friday morning, the beans were still a little crunchy, so we decided to let it simmer through the day and get together for salads from my work cafeteria. When we got home Friday night, the chili was ready. We had it with flatbread and beer and it was very tasty… Vegetarian soups are sort of like hot, liquid salad, right? So that makes two salads in a row right there…
Saturday started with pasties for lunch and a salad for dinner. I’ve waxed nostalgic about Jean Kay’s pasties before (Order them by phone! 906-228-4302) and they’re well worth the waxing. They even have vegetarian pasties, which are like hot salad in a pie…
Or maybe I’m pushing that aspect of things a bit too far…
Anyway, Sunday all bets were off. My Fiancee made some outstanding scones for breakfast/lunch, and we had dinner at a friend’s apartment. Crockpot kielbasa with sauerkraut and ‘taters. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of sauerkraut (I think it’s because the stuff I used to be fed as a child had fennel seeds and other spices in it) but this stuff was TASTY.
From there we went home and much cooking was done… I got some stuff ready for making a new batch of wine and my Fiancee made cookies for all of our co-workers as birthday presents. It’s her birthday today, but she’s the one giving away cookies… Kind of Hobbit-like, but very cool. And the cookies are awesome. Snickerdoodles with cinnamon chips…
Well, gotta go. Lunch is over (leftover black bean chili!) and it’s back to work.
