I’ve got a mild poke-in-the-eye type headache occupying far too much of my attention right now. It’s not severe enough to be incapacitating, but it’s enough to slow me down. I blame the weekend. It’s not that I partied excessively or anything. I just had a couple of late nights in a row and not enough time to recover from them yet.
Saturday night was the Smithee Awards, which went quite well in spite of a few technical glitches. I discovered that for some reason I have a mono mini-8 to dual RCA jack cable. I should say that I had such a cable… It has been dumped into a trash can along with the bits of leftover Circus Peanuts, Gummi Worms and similar detritus from the show. And nothing gets the heart pumping like discovering half an hour before show-time that the one cable you absolutely need in order for the show to have an audio component doesn’t do what you thought it did. Fortunately, I had exactly the cable I did need back at my office, and I was able to get from the auditorium to my office and back in record time.
After the show I got a few compliments on how relaxed I seemed in front of an audience… It’s all an illusion, similar to the way that movies themselves work. A movie is simply a series of still images shown so rapidly that the differences between the images is perceived as motion… My demeanor was merely a very rapid stream of intense panic attacks spaced so closely together that they gave the illusion of relaxation.
What with clean-up and the traditional post-show imbibing at Pizza House, I didn’t get to sleep until around three AM on Sunday. I slept poorly, mostly because of intense knee pain… I spend most of the show on my feet. I don’t have to run up and down the auditorium steps like our ballot ninjas/bimbos, but I don’t get to sit down while the movie is running either. After five hours or so it starts to get a bit uncomfortable.
Sunday afternoon we headed up to my Fiancee’s mom’s place for a dinner and family get-together. There was something of a cloud over the whole thing because of some bad news that had come in that morning. A good friend of my future sister in law had been killed in a skydiving accident on Saturday. Rather than call the dinner thing off though, they wanted to spend time with family.
In addition to the wonderful dinner there were other Easter themed activities, like an egg dying party and an egg hunt… Dying eggs is fun. I kind of wish there were another holiday with an ‘egg’ motif. Maybe Halloween. I think it’d be great if there were egg-dying kits with Halloween colors, but I suppose there would be all sorts of potential abuses from egg-throwing Halloween vandals. Anyway, we didn’t get back home until late.
Monday was all work and not much play at all… I did get a chance to do an experimental stir-fry that worked rather well, but no nap time. So today I’m paying for it all… I thought of taking an Advil or something this morning, but I set it aside and didn’t remember it until too late. I may try to track one down here, but not for a bit. I’m stealing time to write this while a stack of a couple hundred images goes through a batch of Photoshop transformations, and it’s almost done.
Ah well. Back to work…
