Sometimes you see something in the morning that lets you know that, no matter how bad the day is going to be for you, it can’t be as bad as it already is for someone else.
I’ve been having some problems with the laptop I use from work. The internal hard drive has been… well.. vanishing seems to describe it. It’s a fairly old laptop and because of the internal arrangements of parts, I think the ribbon cable to the drive bumps up against the bottom edge of the keyboard. Basically, after three years of me hitting the space bar I think I’ve worn a thin spot in the cable. Fortunately, I’ve been fairly good about keeping regular backups and I was able to do a complete drive clone using the excellent Carbon Copy Cloner, so I can keep working with very little difficulty.
Still, it’s a hassle that I’d rather not have to deal with. If I were in a grouchy mood, I’d be pretty peeved about it. But this morning on my way in, I saw something that put the whole thing in a different light.
I’d just dropped my Fiancee off at her workplace and I was continuing in when I saw a car stopped in middle of an intersection. The driver was sitting there with her door open, talking on a cell phone, while traffic was inching around her. As I drove past, I saw that the front wheel on her car had simply folded up underneath her while she was making a turn. The front corner of her car was resting on the pavement. Half a block further on, I spotted two cops coming out of a Starbucks, so I pulled over and pointed them in the direction of the broken down car. At the very least, they could direct traffic around it…
So yeah. Compared to that, my day is going to be all sunshine and roses.
