I don’t know how they manage it here at Origins… They screw up something about the Smithee awards. Either they shuffle us from room to room, or they don’t print something vitally important (like the TIME of the show) in the convention book.
This year, they listed us as a “Sold Out” event.
Which is tough, considering that we don’t have any tickets to be sold out of…
Oh, I’m sure it’s just a computer system glitch – standard left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing type stuff. Since we don’t need any tickets, we don’t have any tickets in the system, and since there are zero tickets available, obviously we must be sold out. Intellectually it makes sense. But we’ve had people come up to us all upset that they can’t get in to the show. We’ve reassured them that it’s not the case at all, and that we welcome all challengers to the Sands of Blood… Wait… Wrong contest. We welcome them to the Smithee Awards… That’s right…
So anyway, if you’re at Origins and looking for us, we’re not going to turn you away at the door. We may have ‘sold out’ as a matter of personal integrity, but that has nothing to do with admission to the show. We don’t take tickets, and any rumors you’ve heard to the contrary are nothing more than the usual batch of things from the Origins schmucks.
