Sometimes I think the English language has too many ways to say the same thing. It can be something of a barrier to folks who are trying to learn English as a second language. Imagine all of the different phrases you’d need be taught, simply to ask someone for directions…
There’s two that stick in my head immediately:
“Do you know the way to San Jose?”
“Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?”
And if you’re at all musically inclined, you’ve now got both those tunes warring for simultaneous space in your brain… You’re welcome.
Right now, my head is occupied with some sort of cold, or sinus blockage or infection. Something that, for the sake of simplicity, I’m going to refer to as “The Ear Thing.”
The Ear Thing is strange. It’s not painful, nor do I feel particularly ill. I just seem to have a poor sense of balance. Everything seems like it’s being dragged slowly to the right. Sitting down and writing doesn’t bother me too much. I can kind of ignore it as a background nuisance, like loud rap music from a passing car outside. Walking is a bit of a bother. It’s a thousand times better than it had been this morning though. I drove in to work, turned around, and drove right back home…
