I’m thinking of having a video camera installed on the end of my arm. It’d make things so much simpler… All I’d need to do would be to point in the general direction of whatever it is that I’m supposed to be taping. I’ve been videotaping so many things lately, it’s a wonder that a camera hasn’t spontaneously grafted itself to my hand.
Yesterday afternoon I taped the MLK day lecture in the Michigan Union Ballroom. A big echoey place with a nice bright window behind the podium… I was able to set up off to the side, so the lecturer wasn’t backlit, but I wasn’t able to patch into the PA system for an audio feed. Hopefully, live sound will be good enough. I should be able to do some filtering when I put together the edited copy.
This morning, bright and early (early enough that it wasn’t even bright yet), I was in taping another wrist fixation surgery. It was the same sort of thing as last time, but we were able to get a working video line from the x-ray machine directly to the camera. When I do the edited version of the procedure, I’ll be combining the footage from that with the stuff I shot in the OR. Should be fun! Plus, the doc wants a soundtrack to go with it, which is the perfect excuse to order Garage Band for the office.
