Columbus By Night

This thin slice of skyline is the only bit of scenic view from the hotel room.

The Drury Inn at the Columbus Convention Center is the probably the best hotel I’ve stayed at for Origins. I stayed at a Red Roof Inn or some similar national brand motel one of the first years I was there, and it was nothing special. The rates were ok, but it was well off site from the convention and parking was a pain.

The convention center Hyatt was decent, but expensive, and I only stayed there one year. The Crown Plaza had been the default haunt for the Smithee crowd for quite a few years. It was convenient to the con and relatively cheap, but there were huge problems with the room reservations every single time.

Two years ago, the room at the Crown had a good view of a new place being built, so last year we stayed there. The difference was like night and day. For only about ten dollars more per night, we had a room with a fridge, a microwave, some complementary soda and popcorn and a high-speed internet connection.

The only thing it kind of lacks is a great view…
