The Wife Guest Blog Part III: The Margarita-off

All scientific experiments begin with a question. Tonight’s is: Which is the better margarita mix? In order to conduct a quasi-real experiment, we first tried to control as many of the variables as we could. Thus, say hello to the tequila.

Hello tequila!

Both mixes got the same tequila (sorta – we didn’t realize that the mega bucket-o-booz would take ALL of our first bottle of tequila so we had to run out and get a second bottle but it’s the same kind so we’ll just call it good and continue on with the experiment) and were made according to the directions on the bottle/bucket. So! Let’s introduce the contenders.

The tried and true frozen bucket-o-rita. Look! It’s even got a spigot. Heh. It also drank an entire bottle of tequila but we managed to rescue the worm before that went down to. We usually have bucket-o-rita when we do Smithee movie nights because it helps take the edge off. Maybe that’s why it drank the entire bottle. Hmmm!

The Up and Coming. I saw this at World Market and decided to give it a taste. Besides, the more margarita the better right? Right!

Gentlemen, start your engines.

The bucket-o-rita takes a lot (LOT!) of tequila and you have to sacrifice all or nothing since those are the mixing directions. So, if you happen to get the better tasting tequila you aren’t going to have any left over for drinking when the bucket eats it all. Hrrmph. The bucket also takes 24 hours to prepare so you can’t do spontaneous frozen margaritas. Well, unless you had a microfreeze I suppose. The plusses are that the bucket is frozen (wheee!) and sweet. And green! (Assuming you aren’t using a golden colored tequila which turns it a funny olive green). And spigot!

The mix of margarita, on the other hand, is built for spontaneity. It gives a mixing ratio of two parts tequila to three parts mix so you can have as much tequila left over for shots as you didn’t mix up in a margarita. It also doesn’t make me as sad as the bucket did when it drank all our tequila. The mix is a little bit more time intensive with the serving because you have to measure and shake. The bucket is just a chip and scoop deelie but I like shaking. It sounds neat and the shaker gets really chilly. The mix is not as sweet as the bucket but it is darned tasty.

In short, there is just a slight difference in taste but both are equally tasty. I give my seal of approval to both. In fact, I think I’m going to have me a margarita right now. Writing under the wire gives one a powerful thirst.
