Gotta get one of these

My Fiancee sent me this link earlier today… I’ve got to get one of these shirts…

Journey Northward

My Fiancee and I are heading up to East Lansing later today for a film festival. We’re planning on attending two movies, “Gigantic” – a documentary about the band They Might Be Giants and “Bubbahotep” – Bruce Campbell’s latest movie.

Not much to write today

Kinda tired and sleepy. My fiancee and I spent last night helping some friends out with a minor remodeling project. It was good to get in some practice cutting drywall… I figure if I’m gonna make any mistakes it’d be better to make them on a wall that’s going to be hidden behind a closet full of coats rather than on the bathroom walls.

Random Thoughts about Meeting Food

Not in the sense of “Hi food, how’ve you been?” More along the lines of food left over after a staff meeting.

Productive Weekend

Threw out about three and a half yards of construction trash yesterday. Threw out my right elbow too. Well, not so much threw it out as overextended it while hurling a forty pound sack of cement board and plastic tile fragments into an industrial-sized dumpster.

Pillars of the Internet

I have a theory that discussion on the Internet is supported by three main topics, or pillars. In no particular order they are Stories About Pets, Wingnut Political Discourse and Porn. Practically everything about the internet relates in some way to these three pillars.

And having written about a hundred entries, I suppose it’s time for me to figure out where I fit into the whole scheme of things.

Why do I read these guys…

I’m not obsessive about checking the referrer log, but I do it every so often. I can quit any time I like, ok? It’s fun to see how people get here, since I don’t exactly go out of my way to advertise. Most people get here through Google searches, but there are a few links to here from other people’s web logs. Cody Clark over at Overflow found my 1kbwc database and linked to it. On the other hand, Arthur Jennings over at timeistight seems to have picked my name at random from the Blogging Ecosphere over at The Truth Laid Bear.

That’s fine by me. I can respect randomness.

Losing touch

Pavefrance.gifA satire site I did a logo for a while ago is gone, and I don’t know quite when it happened. I guess I’m seeing it as another sign of how terrible I am at staying in contact with people. It’s kind of sad. And now that I’m going through my address books, preparing for wedding invites and announcements, it’s really amazing to see just how many people I used to know that I just haven’t seen or heard from for years.

Babble 419

I used to have a PC DOS program called “Babble.” It was a fairly simple Markov chain based AI that would produce pseudo-coherent text based on user input… A friend of mine once typed in the dialogue from daytime television commercials and the program told him that “Inside of every Nordic-Track body hides an effervescent rush of hemorrhoidal tissue.”

You just can’t argue with statements like that. It sums up the whole daytime TV experience.

If you’re interested in trying it out for yourself, I think I found a place to download it here. At that same site they’ve got a bunch of similar looking software for the Mac that I plan on trying. It’s like you’re playing word association games with someone else’s text, looking for hidden meanings.
