Baby, it’s HOT outside…

Just got this via e-mail:

** High Priority **

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the
Washtenaw County area for today and Tuesday. With the heat index
expected to reach up to 105 degrees, there will be a serious risk for
heat-related illness.

The Red Cross will open a cooling center at Eastern Michigan University
today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. More
information about the center and transportation options is available via
the Washtenaw County Web site,
http://www.ewashtenaw.org/news/2006/heat_warning.html.

Please share this information with patients, colleagues and neighbors
in the community. The county has asked all residents to be especially
attentive to the elderly and people with disabilities to make sure their
situations are safe. Everyone, no matter what their age or health
status, should use caution in pursuing outdoor work and activities
during this time, and should be sure to drink enough clear liquids.

For more information on preventing, identifying and treating
heat-related illness, see these entries in the UMHS Health Topics A to Z
online library.

Ok. So now what?

While I was getting things set up for yesterday’s party, a bee landed on my nose.

A bee. A big fuzzy black and yellow bee.

On my nose.

New comic, July 28

So you want to know a sure-fire formula for box office gold? Of course you do. So go read the comic.

Vexing

Hm. This is annoying. The “Ohnorobot” transcription and search function for my comic isn’t working. Looks like it’s a communication problem between this server and theirs. I’ve got no clue what changed that may have disturbed things, and the generic “Proxy Failure” error message doesn’t help much either.

Ah well. Yet more incentive to get my own server up and running at home.

New Comic!

And it’s a singalong!

Because if you don’t sing along, there’ll only be three people singing what ought to be a quartet…

I’m Just Drinking

There’s a new webcomic resource out there… It’s a semi-serious Webcomic Bartending Guide at www.imjustdrinking.com. So far it’s got a bunch of nifty drinks for a huge cross-section of comics, including a couple that have been added by the comics creators…

Professionally Pleasant

I just got a call asking if I wanted to change my long distance service. Considering that I’m at work right now, I declined. I must admit, I did have a fleeting temptation to see if I could have the entire University’s long distance service re-routed to a different company on my whim.

Horribly Humid

It’s been hot, humid and disgusting for the past two days, with the minor relief of a crashing thunderstorm last night. Unfortunately, that’s likely to mean that it’ll be even more humid and disgusting today.

Chipper

A flying rock took a chip out of the bug windshield last night. We were heading over to Rob’s place for an evening of debauchery in the form of Outback take-away, The Brothers Grimm and Carcassonne when some yahoo zipped from the far left lane over to the exit ramp and kicked up a chunk of gravel. It was kind of odd, in a slow-motion sort of way. I could see it lift up off the road, arc up into the air, and hurl directly at my head. There was a loud pop as it hit, and now there’s a crazy little star of broken glass right in the middle of my line of sight. It’s not huge – about half the width of a dime – but the placement is annoying.
