Professionally Pleasant

I just got a call asking if I wanted to change my long distance service. Considering that I’m at work right now, I declined. I must admit, I did have a fleeting temptation to see if I could have the entire University’s long distance service re-routed to a different company on my whim.

We had a client in the office while this happened and he said that I was remarkably pleasant to the person on the phone. I said, “It’s just a fasçade I put on at work to hide my seething hatred of telemarketers. If they’d called me at home I’d be seeing if I could make them cry, or at the very least get them to hang up on me.”

Oddly enough, it’s been a few months since we last had a telemarketer call us at home. Either the whole Do Not Call Registry thing is working or I’ve managed to spread sufficient Fear to keep them at bay.
