It’s been hot, humid and disgusting for the past two days, with the minor relief of a crashing thunderstorm last night. Unfortunately, that’s likely to mean that it’ll be even more humid and disgusting today.
My office AC is getting a heck of a work-out. I’ve got three computers on my desk (Mac & PC towers and my laptop) and Pete has his two laptops as well. Ok, Laptop is something of a misnomer now. Ever since a Swedish scientist got written up in The Lancet for burning himself, most companies have started calling them “Portable Computers”.
At any rate, if work is toasty, the house is an oven. A toaster oven, at the very least. We’ve been trying to avoid any kind of indoor cooking if at all possible. My Wife had a couple cakes to bake though – including an incredible pre-Art Fair antistress cake that folks at my office have been nibbling on. Other than that, we’ve been trying to compartmentalize and cool down the house.
The upstairs is just too darn big to chill with the little AC unit we had up there, so we’ve done a bit of rearranging. A few weeks ago I dropped a network cable down the ventilator shaft from the upstairs into the closet of the back bedroom. This let us move the PC down to someplace a little cooler. Last night I finished up the arrangement by moving the little overtaxed AC unit from the upstairs window to the back window in the guest room. This gives us a nice cool alternative bedroom that I can be banished to if I snore…
Next up on the agenda is putting the second temperature controlled fan in upstairs. There’s one up there already, set to get some air flowing around whenever it’s over 75 degrees. It’s been running pretty much non-stop for the past three weeks. A supplementary fan on the other side of the house couldn’t hurt.
