Still Lurking About

We’re driving south tomorrow… Today has been hectic. My Fiancee has been helping with a bunch of stuff, getting packing together and such (she is awesome!), while I work with my folks taking a huge number of pictures of jewelry for their insurance.

My folks have been married since 1966. Anniversery and birthday and holiday gifts can kind of creep up on you over that amount of time, especially if (like my Dad) you’re an artist who occasionally does jewelry work of your own.

I remember watching him use a tiny butane/oxygen torch to melt down gold for use in something when I was young… I can’t remember exactly what he made, but I probably took a picture of it tonight. Nowadays, he does the design work and contracts out the actual construction to local jewelers. One of them is Toni, the person we ordered our rings from.

There’s also a lot of old stuff with lost history. My Fiancee’s ring is one of those. We’ll never know who it belonged to, or how they got it. I think, in a way, that was part of what set off this project. Mom and Dad realized that they are the only people who know the stories behind these tiny treasures, and they want to make sure they aren’t lost when they die.

Well, that’s a nice cheery thought. I guess helping with the project is kind of getting me down…

Hm..

Well, on a much cheerier note, we got our supplies in order for the trip down. By supplies I mean Pasties. A dozen each of steak and veggie, with another dozen veggie mini-pasties as food for the trip down. We’ve also got a dozen chicken pasties being shipped to us, due to arrive next Wednesday. Jean Kay’s Pasties are the best in the area, and they ship practically anywhere. They take fax and phone orders, and if they had a website I’d link to it from here too… Call ’em up here and order a bunch:
