I don’t know if this is an actual ladybug or one of those imports that plagued the area for a while. I’m also unsure if it really matters… It’s been cold enough lately that this is likely to be one of the last insect pictures of the year. I was actually kind of surprised to see this guy at all.
Anyway, ladybug or not, I’m sure someone would use some variant of that horrible nursery rhyme on the poor thing.

It always seemed really unfair to me that, out of all the insect world, ladybugs have been singled out for threats of arson and mayhem. I mean, it’s not like they did anything to deserve it. Even the imported Asian ladybugs are beneficial predators: they eat aphids! Heck, they were imported as an organic pest control! Their only downside is that they come indoors to stay warm during the winter… And we pay them back by threatening their families.
Sad.
