Forgotten, but not gone.

Part of the overhaul of websites here at work is a huge link hunt. There’s actually a sub-contractor to a helper to an assistant to an administrator somewhere whose job is to go through the sites and find broken links and things that haven’t been updated for ages. This information gets bounced around until it’s reported to a committee, which either shrugs and says the corporate equivalent of “Oopsie!” or sends a memo off to whoever is supposed to be maintaining the site.

Comment Responses!

The movable type comment system is great… The only thing I dont’ like about it is that if there’s something new, nifty and useful that crops up in the comments, it’s stuck back in the archives where people generally don’t see it. So I figured that I’d take a moment to highlight some… um… highlights from some of the most recent comments.

The first one is from Kevin Maki. Judging by his name and email address, he’s a reader from the frozen tundra of my old hometown:

Just wanted to let everyone know that Jean Kay’s pasties can be ordered at www.jeankays.com

Yes! This is awesome news… The pastie is one of the staple foods of the Yooper diet, and now they’re available online! Bwah ha ha! Go order some. They’re damn tasty.

It’s quiet… too quiet…

My boss just left for the day. He was looking flushed and when I asked if he was all right he admitted that he was feeling a little ill… In some ways it’s like I sent him home to recover. An odd feeling.

On the other hand, I feel a bit worried that I may be responsible for his illness. I thought that my weekend of intestinal distress may have been food related, but it’s possible that it was something else. Something contagious.

I hope not. It’s quiet now, but it’s going to be busy soon.

On a Stick

Not much today… It’s a wandering about type day for me. Every time the Art Fair rolls around, my boss schedules us time to wander about and refresh our creative batteries. It makes good sense, considering that we’re creative types. If it was an actuarial office or something like that, I’d be a bit more skeptical.

At any rate, I’m going to be out and about today… I may have a stack of photos to upload over the next few days. My main concern is going to be keeping cool and hydrated. I’ve got a two quart bottle of beverage in my duffel and a goofy hat to keep the sun off of my noggin.

Feelin’ Feeble

I’ve got to get back in the habit of working out on a regular basis. I tend to cycle between being in and out of shape over the course of a couple of years, and I’m afraid I’m on the low swing of a cycle right now. I need to fix that before the wedding, and keep it fixed once the wedding is over.

Two years too late…

Grr! And also Arrgh!

If only I had held off buying my car for two years, I could get both a Beetle and an iPod in one simple promotional package!

Of course, I’d still be limping along in my old ’89 Honda Civic… It had no AC and a disturbing habit of not starting if the engine was in a specific range of temperature… But an iPod! And I could have gotten a convertible bug!

I shutter to think what mite have happened…

When you’re working with a computer it always helps to remember one of the corollaries to Gigo’s Law: “Never trust anything important to an automatic spellchecker.”

Driver Zed

Ah, the majestic game which is Ann Arbor parking! So curious, so quaint… So incredibly frustrating.

The Bug’s been in the shop since Monday, and today’s a Dojo Day, so I’m driving my Fiancee’s behemoth of a truck. It’s a bit different from zipping about in my usual car in kind of the same way that an aircraft carrier is different from a dinghy.

Oi, my blistered feets!

Headed out to an excellent lunch at the new PotBelly sandwich place with my Fiancee and Alessar today. It’s DAMN hot out there! I was sweating up a storm by the time I got to the law library… Normally it’s about a 20 minute walk, but I was running late so I hustled and made it there in about 15. In retrospect, that was a bit of a mistake.

It’s nice to be back.

Even though I’m going to miss some of the luxuries of the hotel life (high speed internet! Free breakfasts!), it’s good to sleep in my own house again. Or at least to doze for a few minutes until the cats decide that it’s time to charge across the bed in a stampede of feline feet.

How many cats do you need for an actual stampede, anyway? Two? Eight? A dozen? I don’t know… I suspect it changes as an inverse ratio to how dark the room is. You need a lot of cats in full daylight, but late at night two cats can stampede like a full herd.
