Could an ecstatic athletic ascetic be enthusiastic about aesthetic elastic?
Or would that be too eccentric?

Sometimes I think the English language has too many ways to say the same thing. It can be something of a barrier to folks who are trying to learn English as a second language. Imagine all of the different phrases you’d need be taught, simply to ask someone for directions…
There’s two that stick in my head immediately:
“Do you know the way to San Jose?”
“Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?”
And if you’re at all musically inclined, you’ve now got both those tunes warring for simultaneous space in your brain… You’re welcome.

Low twenties and snow! That’s more like it! Now I can get down to the serious business of complaining about how people down here can’t drive on snow. Heck, some of them can’t seem to drive at all.

Did a lot of wandering about today. First off it was over to my sis’s house to take care of her mail and douse her houseplants, then we walked over to Cody’s in Ypsi’s depot town for lunch. It’s been unseasonably warm here, so we didn’t even need to bother with gloves and hats. Fifty degrees in January! It’s disgusting. But it does make it easier to get some exercise in by walking.

There’s a game out there that makes me think of Babylon-5… You know, the episode where the entire Drazi race seems to go nuts and starts killing each other for no apparent reason? Basically, it all has to do with the color of sash that each one draws from a barrel. Every five years, Green fights Purple until one side wins.

What am I doing up before 5 in the morning? Well… It’s not exactly waking up early, seeing as how I haven’t gone to bed yet. My wife and I have been playing computer games for the past twelve hours or so, with just a few breaks for food. And a little pause for me to drive across town to take care of a friend’s rabbits while they’re away on vacation.

Just having a quiet evening at home after a lot of driving. My left knee is aching for some reason, probably because of having to sit still in the drivers seat heading back and forth between home base and the various Christmases. My wife is napping in the next room, and I’m contemplating doing something simple with rice for dinner.

Just a quick hello post to all and sundry. We’re back from Christmas at the in-laws and about to depart for second Christmas with my folks in Saginaw. It’s snowy and mildly treacherous out there, so I’m driving nice and carefully the whole way.

Totally random thought… Would Elvis have been such a success if he had written haiku?
My shoes are blue suede
And you are just a hound-dog
Do not step on them.
[updated – These things are like popcorn! I can’t seem to stop writing them…]
Long live Las Vegas
My soul burns with the bright lights
And money departs
Party in the jail
The band plays much too loudly
Jailbirds sing, knocked out
My baby has left
So I must rent a new room
Down on Lonely Street
Christmas without you
Red and green, but mostly blue
The tree, and my heart
It’s now or never
Tomorrow will be too late
My love will not wait

Had two bits of fun yesterday… One was setting up the web server for multihoming. The other was hanging out with Dirge & Shar and their family and playing with their new kitten, Penny. Thinking about it now, I’ve realized that unix machines and kittens have a great deal in common… They both give unconditional trust to people they like, and they’re both really easy to fool.
I’m just going to write about the kitten in this entry, if only to spare those of you whose eyes glaze over when I geek out. Instructions on setting up virtual hosts will come later…
