Very Fine Apples

I’ve got a carboy of apple wine in my cellar that I haven’t talked about very much. I started it up before I had the ‘blog, so that’s one reason it hasn’t gotten much mention here… The other reason is that it just hasn’t been doing very well.

Bizzare.

I have no idea why, but I’m sitting here thinking about writing a song about a boozing, womanizing Mesopotamian archaeologist. I’ve already got the chorus.

Ziggurats and whiskey and wild, wild women…

I’ve hit the big time!

I suppose it’s a sort of milestone… People are posting advertisements in the comments on my old entries. I’ve been deleting them of course… Especially since they seem to be trying to sell either dental insurance or pornography. After all, it’s not like I’m making any money off of this thing, so it’s hardly fair that someone else uses it for advertising. I react badly when people do that sort of thing to me. Just ask some former neighbors of mine…

But it looks better that way.

It’s amazing the damage that someone can do with photoshop. With just a few mouse clicks, I’ve removed dozens of safety features from a helicopter landing pad. They’re very important things too, like landing lights and automatic fire suppression nozzles near the refueling area, but they just look awkward cluttering up the background like that.

Recaffination nation

I’m drinking break room coffee this morning for the first time in a very long time. I guess I’ve been avoiding it, mostly because I’ve been doing the “lots of water” thing, but partially because it’s just not that good. Today the heat is worth the flavor. I just need something warm to drink to help break up my sinus congestion and soothe my throat. Y’see, it’s cold season, and I’m brewing up a doozy in my nasal passages.

Bye bye beetles..

Ladybug.jpg
I don’t know if this is an actual ladybug or one of those imports that plagued the area for a while. I’m also unsure if it really matters… It’s been cold enough lately that this is likely to be one of the last insect pictures of the year. I was actually kind of surprised to see this guy at all.

What the hell…

Ok, so over on the shelf I see a box with this on it:

and I think, “What the heck is that?”

Then I turn the box over and realize that it’s backup tapes…

Drilling for lint

There’s construction going on all over the medical campus. Probably it’s no more than usual, but it feels much worse than ever before. I think it’s just the inconvenience factor. They’ve closed one lane of Medical Center Drive right by the busy turn off of Observatory. Watching cars try to shuffle through the narrow spot is fun. There’s congestion and hesitation instead of the normal smooth flow of traffic through the streets. The pacemaker timing of the traffic light is designed for wider veins of traffic. Clots of cars sit in the middle of the street simply because the traffic isn’t draining away from the intersection fast enough. And every so often a big-assed SUV will clog things up like a stick of butter in an artery.

Too damn nifty!

I was checking the server logs today and in addition to some hits from folks in Belgium and the Netherlands (hi over there by the way…) there was a link in from something called “Detroit Local Feeds.” It looks like it snags part of the RSS feed from all sorts of places that are listed with GeoURL and posts the most recent headlines. Very cool if you want to get an impression for what various people in different locations are yammering about. I’m adding their link to the sidebar…

Gum of DOOM!

We did some shopping last night at a fabric store. They have a ton of other stuff out there for the arts & crafts crowd, as well as a selection of Halloween decorations and candy. My Fiancee got some freaky little dolls with removable velcro heads (“Pull my head!”) but I was sidetracked by the nifty little tins of “DragonFire Gum.”
